Favorite vs. Worst Website

My absolute favorite web site to visit is Potterybarn.com. I go to the site at least once a week to check out the new pictures and products. I think its beautiful and it always inspires me. The site is very elegant and classy with its gray text against the white background. The pictures are the focus of this web site. I like that Potterybarn.com always feels current and one can really feel the seasonal tone here, thanks to the pictures.
An example of a really bad web site is scrapbookingheavenstore.com. It is not near as bad as the examples that we have seen in class, but it is still ugly. There is no color scheme on this web site- all colors are being used. The photos of the store are of bad quality and on the picture of the store owners one of the two actually has her eyes shut. Further, different fonts are being used but the one font that is used the most, is comic sans. It makes the page look cheap and unproffessional. Plus, the web site has no focal point at all; it is just cluttery.

The Cat and The Bird

In the middle of showing off all of my school assignments here on the blog, I want to show you a funny video. After all, thats actually an assignment that we have in class as well- to put a video in our blog.
I love animals! Sometime they act so weird and funny. Check out this interesting meeting between a bird and a kitten.

Making a Blog

Project 3 for my web design class was to make a blog. So far its been both fun and easy. When it comes to fonts and colors, I like to keep things quite simple. I chose a white background for my blog since pictures look best with that color. A dark gray text against a white background is easy and comfortable for the eyes to read. Black frames looks clean and nice and then I thought I needed to spice things up a little, so I chose a fabulous red for the blog titles.
Now the over all design for my blog looks fairly good, but it still need some more personality. To be continued!

Making a Photo Gallery

Project number 2 in my web design class was to make three photo galleries consisting of the five photographs that I retouched and colored for project number 1. For this assignment I used Adobe Brigde. It was the first time I used this program but it was quite easy.

Retouch and Color Old Photographs

I really liked project 1 that we had in my web design class; to retouch and color old photos, plus I looove the fourties and the fifties.
First, I picked out five photos that were somewhat the same style. Some of them I changed from being an ugly brownish color to black and white. Then I took away scratches and dirt with the repairing tools in Photoshop. I used the patch tool for skin, the clone stamp to copy something and the healing tool for textures- just like Amy has taught me. After that, I added some color to the persons in the pictures. I decided to skip coloring the background because it looked cool that way. Last, I added a black frame around each picture. By adding the black frame and color all photos the same way, they all look like they belong together, which is great.
